Mr. Dubin emailed this question to me, and I think it is worthy of group discussion:
"Back in the days when Gallery directors took their jobs seriously, part of what they did for their (then) 33 1/3% commission, was promoting their artists to both Museums and large group (or Survey) shows. By pushing the artists, they established wider networks and connections for exhibitions beyond their locale scope.
Unfortunately, most Galleries no longer do this, claiming it's the artists responsibility, and along with the less responsibilities, they also increased their percent.....
I can think of no way faster to promote Borealis Arts than by starting an active program along these lines..... and no, I doubt we'll ever get back to the 1/3rd. days......."
Bill makes a good point. Any of you artists have experience with museums or large group shows, good or bad? |
